The "La Feuille d'Absinthe" absinthe spoon is by far our most desired spoon. It is also one of the most sought-after spoons among collectors of old absinthe. The spoon's grid features the large wormwood plant, Artemisia absinthium (the key ingredient in absinthe). The wormwood plant is surrounded by a banner which, on the original spoons, sometimes contained advertising text. The bottom of the spoon contains a small grooved area originally used to separate a sugar cube from a sugar loaf (or motte), before sugar cubes were available. The spoon is an exact reproduction of the original 19th-century model.

This spoon is used in the preparation of a traditional French or Swiss absinthe. A traditional absinthe is prepared by pouring an ounce of absinthe into an absinthe glass, then placing the absinthe spoon on top of the glass and a sugar cube on top of the spoon. Iced water flows slowly from a fountain, carafe or balance on the sugar cube. The cold sugar water then flows from the spoon into the absinthe glass, releasing oils and perfuming the air with fennel, grand wormwood and anise. The combination also begins to take on a milky white color, as the water mixes with the anise.

If you are returning an undamaged order from the EU or rest of world following a change in mind, a restock fee of £15.00 will be taken off your refund once it has been returned to us.

Orders can be collected within 2-4 days of placing your order.

We will keep your order for 28 days from the day it is ready for collection. After that, we will return the item(s) to stock and refund you via your original payment method.

If you are unable to pick up your order within 28 days, please email us at shop@courtauld.ac.uk to see if it is possible to extent the holding period.
