This spoon was originally designed for Toulouse Lautrec and bears the insignia of Lautrec's famous initials at the top of the grill. Lautrec loved absinthe so much that he had a special compartment built inside his "walking stick" to hold a bottle of absinthe. The original is one of the rarest antique absinthe spoons. This is an exact reproduction of this late 19th century absinthe spoon. This spoon is used in the preparation of a traditional French or Swiss absinthe. A traditional absinthe is made by pouring an ounce of absinthe into an absinthe glass, then placing the absinthe spoon on the glass and a sugar cube on the spoon. Ice water slowly flows from a fountain, jug or pendulum onto the sugar cube. The cold sugar water then drips from the spoon into the glass of absinthe, releasing oils and scenting the air with fennel, grand wormwood and anise. The combination also begins to turn a milky white color, as the water mixes with the anise.

It measures 7.25 inches long. Stainless steel. Does not tarnish. Dishwasher safe.
